Q. What is Afrikan Centered Education?
Afrakan-centered education provides opportunity for the study of all academic subjects from the point of view in which the history, contribution and future of Afrakan people is central. Character development and cultural and historical awareness are given the highest priority in the curriculum. All academic subjects are addressed in the context of Afrakan world history, and the necessary prioritization of family, national development and self-sufficiency. In this mode of study, all students are expected to acquire an awareness of and commitment to their personal contributions (present and future) to the uplift of their families, their communities and the Pan-Afrakan world.

Q. Do you have a dress code or uniform?
Yes, All akeko (students) at The Ijoba Shule are required to wear one of our three traditional Afrakan dress uniforms. Our uniforms come in three (3) colors- red, green or gold. Students must wear the entire same-color uniform. Our akeko-omodebinrin (female students) are expected to wear gele (head-wrap), buba (blouse) and lapa, (a wrap dress). The akeko-omodekunrin are expected to wear fila (Afrakan-style hat), ewu (shirt) and sokoto (trousers). The Ijoba Shule assists new parents in meeting the dress code by providing uniforms for purchase from Oja Shule (Shule Market).

Q. What academic background does my child need in order to be admitted to Ijoba Shule?
We will request records and test scores from your child’s previous school but admission is not solely dependent on how well your child did at their last school. We understand that each child is different and so admission is decided on a case-by-case basis. We also look at the family as a whole and what they would bring to the Ijoba Shule community. Children transferring from another institution to Ijoba Shule will be evaluated upon admission for grade placement.
